Ace Broadcast Journalist, Blog writer and author, DC Kwame Kwakye of GBC Radio Central has emerged the 2024/2025 Media Personality for the Central Region, at the 7th edition of the Central Media Awards organised by Ezone Networks Ghana in Cape Coast.

The award epitomizes his unwavering dedication to the media profession and contributions to the developmental journey of the region over the years.

At the prestigious Ridge Royal Hotel

conference room in Cape Coast, on Friday, 27th December, 2024. The programme assembled an array of media personalities both retired and serving from across the region with the overarching vision of acknowledging their excellent contributions within the media fraternity.

The Media Personality category was keenly contested with with twelve nominees including: Nana Ama Egyirba, Asaase Radio, John Osikani, Cape TV, Ohene Kwame David, Cape FM, Sir De Guy, Impact FM, Mr. Addison, Darling FM, Nana Kwaku Arhin, Live FM, DC Kwame Kwakye, GBC Radio Central, Osahene, Property FM, Gertrude Lamptey, Sweet Memories FM, Emmanuel Austin Baah, Ideal FM, Captain Bee, Lucky TV and Mista Chanti, Obaatanpa Radio.

Speaking after receiving the award, Kwakye thanked all those who took time off their busy schedule to vote for him, especially when money is difficult to come by with the Christmas season fast approaching. “Indeed this award is both humbling and fascinating. Humbling because of the enormity of belief people had in me by sending me money to vote on their behalf. This was very sobering for me”, he stressed.

It was fascinating for him, highlighting, wining an award in the presence of his former boss (Kojo Quansah of GBC Radio Central fame) who trained and mentored him was a memorable experience that would be etched in his memory.

Kwakye took the opportunity to thank Ezone Networks Ghana for their steadfast commitment in encouraging media practitioners in the region regardless of the financial difficulties in putting together such an event.

One stand out feature of this year’s event was the recognition of people who in diverse ways have significantly contributed to shaping the media landscape of the region over the years. Mr. Kojo Quansah of GBC Radio Central fame, Prof. G. K. T. Oduro and host of others were recognised.

Ushering in the guest and nominees to the awards night, Ezone Networks Ghana CEO, Oheneba Nana Agyei Amaniampong highlighted the journey of the awards programme so far, pointing out the rational behind it. He recounted that within the seven years of organising such an award scheme, they are yet to secure a major sponsor. “Everything has be done from our pockets and it’s been very difficult over the years but, we keep hope alive believing that someday a company or an organisation would see our good works and come on board”, he stressed.

The CEO explained that talents abound in the region and not only in Accra as is the normal perception our there. With the awards, he emphasised, “We’ve instituted the awards to showcase Central Region media talents to the country and also encourage them to give off their best”, stated Amaniampong.

He praised the management of Ridge Royal for their continues support over the years, singling out Itel Ghana’s partnership for the 7th edition as very encouraging and hoping other company’s come on board.

As the dust settles on 7th edition of the Central Media Awards celebration of media excellence with the remarkable impressionsade in the region, the organisation is poised to make future awards even more competitive and worthwhile.

In all over 35 plaques and citation were presented to award winners and organisations in recognition for meritorious efforts in improving the media landscape.
