Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, has praised his party’s sophisticated collation system and said that it is better than the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) system. Dr. Omane Boamah claims that if the NPP had a more effective collation mechanism similar to the NDC’s, the concession speech made by NPP flagbearer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after his party’s loss in the general election on December 7, 2024, may have been given sooner. Bawumia was at a pitiful 41.21% after our National Elections and IT Directorate compiled more than 37,000 presidential results from polling places long before 10 p.m. on election night. Why wouldn’t he give in the next day? In a post on Facebook on Friday, December 27, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah said.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia actually delayed!” he said. If and only if the NPP collation method had been as quick as ours, he could have given in that evening. About fifteen hours after elections closed on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Vice President Bawumia formally conceded defeat to President-elect John Dramani Mahama. The results were eventually announced by Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, who confirmed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 41.61% of the legitimate votes, while John Dramani Mahama of the NDC won with 56.55%. The NDC won a resounding majority in the parliamentary elections in addition to the presidency.
