Frank Agyekum, the spokesperson for former President John Agyekum Kufuor, claims that President Akufo-Addo bears some of the responsibility for the party’s defeat in the general elections of 2024.

With more than 1.6 million votes, the National Democratic Congress defeated the New Patriotic Party.

Mr. Agyekum stated in an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show that many supporters left the party due to public disillusionment with it and the haughtiness of some of its members.

He added that these problems developed under President Akufo-Addo’s direction and that one reason for the huge loss at the polls was the imposition of unpopular candidates on constituencies.

The story demonstrates that things had been going south for a while, and the warning signs were there. This is where we are now because we disregarded the warnings and did not take corrective action.

“The ultimate accountability always rests with the leader—it begins with him. He remarked, “We give him credit when it’s good, and he has to share the blame when it’s bad.”

Additionally, Mr. Agyekum expressed disapproval of the presidential and parliamentary candidates, calling them “less than ideal.”

Arrogance and difficulty were present in the system, and it appeared that people in positions of authority were not completely aware of the unhappiness. The major setback was probably influenced by this gap between the grassroots and the leadership.
