The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has said that his outfit is working to settle debts owed to referees in the Premier League.

He noted that the Ghana Premier League referees have been paid some amounts of monies; however, there are outstanding payments that are yet to be settled by the GFA.

The GFA spokesperson indicated that it is not a big deal that they owe referees, citing the fact that the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) also owe officiating officials.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Asante Twum assured the Ghanaian referees that their salary arrears will be cleared as soon as possible.

“It is normal that we owe referees. CAF, WAFU, and FIFA all owe referees at times, but the current situation is not the same as it was previously.

“We agreed to pay them after every five weeks, and as we speak, the GPL referees have received week 1 to 5 allowances. The rest of the weeks will be paid very soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Premier League has entered match week 15, yet only 5 weeks of allowances have been paid.
