Media personality and entertainment pundit, Kwasi Aboagye, has accused some celebrities of being involved in politics simply because of money and not because they believe in the parties they follow.

Speaking on Neat FM, Aboagye pointed out that several celebrities who campaigned for either the NDC or NPP do not simply care about the betterment of the country, but only their own pockets.

He added that these celebrities do not even understand the policies being touted by the political parties and would not be able to properly explain or defend such policies if confronted.

“When it comes to some celebrities, I think they follow certain political parties because of the money involved; it’s not because they want the betterment of Ghana.

“Most of them are in it for money. They don’t even understand the policies being touted by the political parties. There are very few of them who might understand, but a lot of them don’t understand the policies. They are just following these parties because of money,” he stated.

Kwasi Aboagye further addressed some derogatory words used by such celebrities during campaigns.

He noted that some celebrities, like Nicholas Omane Acheampong, made strong statements about political figures such as John Dramani Mahama, and wondered how they would face these individuals later.

“These celebrities who were involved in the campaign either for the NDC or NPP, when you pay attention to what some of them said, they later came out to apologise to Ghanaians. I’ve seen someone like Prince David Osei who said something that didn’t favour Ghanaians and later apologised.

“I was just watching some of the videos of my brother Nicholas Omane Acheampong and the things he said about Mahama, so what at all can he say when he meets Mahama?

“Likewise, there are some people who said certain things about Dr. Bawumia, how will they react when they meet him?” he questioned.

Aboagye stressed that the key lesson is to ensure that statements made during campaigns are truthful and can be defended if questioned later.

“The words that we speak during election campaigns, make sure that whatever you are saying are facts, and even if you’re about to be punished, you will still say it.

“Not the things you will say, and when you’re being questioned about it later, you will find yourself wanting because what you said were lies,” he said.
