The Jets are not headed to the NFL postseason next month, but they did get some positive news on Tuesday amid their miserable 4-11 season.

Rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu injured his foot during the team’s loss to the Rams on Sunday, and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said the following day that he’d be placed on IR with just two games remaining this season.

And while it initially appeared that the Plantar fasciitis injury would be long-term – with Ulbrich saying at a press conference that he was ‘fairly certain’ Fashanu would undergo surgery – the team later retracted that.

Following the press conference, the Jets told media that Fashanu would not need surgery, and that they expected a full recovery for the player. The Jets confirmed as such to Mail Sport, via email.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo added that Fashanu needed just a ‘few weeks’ to recover.

The No. 11 pick in the 2024 Draft, Fashanu has been a bright spot this season with just one sack allowed in 15 games, according to Pro Football Focus.

Otherwise, it’s been a brutal year in the first (and maybe) last year of Aaron Rodgers under center, as the defense has regressed and the offense has struggled to put points up.

Both head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas were fired, while offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was demoted and stripped of his play-calling duties after Ulrbich took over.

To make matters worse, there are now trade rumors involving young star wideout Garrett Wilson, who has endured plenty of losing in his three seasons with the franchise.

Speaking after the Jets’ 19-9 loss to the Rams, Wilson said he didn’t know why he was targeted just three times in the first 55 minutes of the game.

‘I just got to go out and put my best foot forward and hope that things fall my way,’ he said.

‘I’d like to be involved, love to make an impact on the game, but people see it differently. That’s out of my control.’

The Jets finish off this disappointing campaign with games against the Bills and Dolphins.
