The government’s recent transfer of GH¢25 million to partially offset the GH¢118 million owed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been met with dissatisfaction.

Concern among students, parents, and educational institutions is high about the lack of funding to issue the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, according to WAEC.

John Kapi, the Head of Public Relations at WAEC, emphasized to the media the inadequate amount given.

He clarified that it is significantly less than what is required to cover the technical and operational expenses of the Council.

In comparison to the amount of money needed for the work we are supposed to perform, the GH¢25 million was obviously a drop in the ocean. Before they even began working on the equipment, we told the minister that we owed our technicians GH¢25 million, which we needed to pay. In addition, we have additional tasks to complete,” he said.

WAEC urged the government to take immediate action to resolve the funding issues in order to expedite the results’ release and guarantee the seamless operation of its activities.
