Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has been reappointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana for a second four-year term beginning in October 2025. Following a careful assessment of her performance during her first term, the University’s Governing Council decided to make this change at a meeting on December 19, 2024.

Professor Amfo’s outstanding leadership and many contributions to the growth of the university are highlighted by his reappointment. The University has improved student experiences, increased the impact of research, and improved the academic atmosphere under her direction. The modernisation of classrooms, the founding of the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA), and the introduction of the ground-breaking one-student-one-laptop (1S1L) program are some of the major projects she introduced during her first term.

Furthermore, Professor Amfo was instrumental in the establishment of the Legon Leadership Academy, which aims to promote diversity and inclusivity in the academic community. She also handled the University’s financial difficulties, successfully managing its debt load and supervising the institution’s digital development.

Her leadership in furthering the University’s strategic vision is also acknowledged by her re-appointment. The University’s new 2024–2029 strategic plan, which was developed under Professor Amfo’s direction, identifies meaningful research, sustainable resource mobilisation, and a transformative student experience as top priorities. The 5-4-5 blueprint is the plan that will direct the University’s expansion and worldwide influence in the upcoming years.

Professor Amfo’s leadership as the University of Ghana’s first female vice chancellor has been distinguished by her creative thinking and dedication to change management. Her prominence as a global leader in higher education is further demonstrated by her participation in esteemed organisations both domestically and abroad.

In addition to her many honours, including the Ghana Woman of the Year for Excellence in Education Award in 2023, Professor Amfo holds a PhD in Linguistics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

As Professor Amfo continues to guide the University of Ghana to new heights in research, academic achievement, and societal contributions, the university community and stakeholders are urged to support her in her second term.

Congratulations on your well-earned reappointment, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo. The University anticipates that her leadership will continue to have a favourable influence.
