Members of Parliament return to their makeshift floor at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for a sitting today, Monday, December 16, 2024.

This is the House’s first sitting after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, adjourned the current meeting of Parliament sine die (indefinitely), for a second time in less than a month on November 7, 2024, due to the House not forming a quorum for decision making.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, in a statement dated December 2, 2024, summoned Members of Parliament for the sitting on Monday.

The order is in accordance with Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and Order 5 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

This sitting comes after the humiliating defeat suffered by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general election with the party losing more than 40 of its seats.

One of the major bones of contention before the adjournment was which political party formed the Majority Caucus and which formed the Minority Caucus, after the declaration of four seats in the House vacant by Speaker Bagbin.
