Popular Ghanaian comedian Kwaku Sintim-Misa aka “KSM” has praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his role in preventing potential chaos and confusion following the 2024 general elections.

In a recent submission on his YouTube channel, KSM explained that Dr. Bawumia’s acceptance of defeat in the aftermath of the elections was crucial in maintaining peace and stability in Ghana.

According to KSM, both major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had the capacity to monitor and collate results from polling stations in real-time.

As results began to indicate a strong performance by the NDC, rumours and suspicions about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) delay in announcing the results started to spread, raising tensions.

“Rumours started coming in. ‘Why haven’t we heard from the EC? Are they trying to rig? Are they doing this? Are they doing that?’ They could all be wrong. But that’s where perception is very, very dangerous. So when Bawumia came out to concede based on the factors that were happening, it was just in time to calm tensions down in Ghana,” he said.

KSM noted that this action helped to prevent what could have been “very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” bringing a sense of sanity and peace to the country.

“And that brought some sanity and some sort of peace into this country. Trust me, sir, if we were saying we were waiting for the EC to officially come after, it could have brought some very uncomfortable moments in Ghana,” he added.

KSM’s comments come as the Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana, 48 hours after the polls closed on December 7.

The announcement declared Mahama the winner with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total votes.
