The largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that it has won a total of 185 parliamentary seats across the country.

This marks the first time since the inception of the Fourth Republic that the ‘Umbrella Party’ has secured such a large number of parliamentary seats in competitive elections.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Sunday, December 8, 2024, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, expressed optimism about winning additional seats in constituencies where results are yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission.

“We still have a few that are not completely confirmed, but our count shows that, as of now, we are talking about at least 185 parliamentary seats for the NDC. We will see what happens with the remaining ones that are still in the toss-up category,” he stated.

The NDC General Secretary also emphasized that party supporters have been instructed not to interfere with the collation of results in areas yet to be declared.

“We will ensure cooperation with the Electoral Commission and that our agents perform their duties diligently. Clear instructions have been sent to our supporters to allow the processes to proceed without violence or intimidation. The evidence of the results lies in the pink sheets. We have told our supporters to work hard and remain vigilant. Once we secure our pink sheets, there is nothing anyone can do,” he assured.

Ghanaians went to the polls on December 7, 2024 to elect a president and 276 new parliamentarians to govern the nation for the next four years.
