By STEVE WILLIAMS FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA

    Published: 22:27 EST, 6 December 2024 | Updated: 23:42 EST, 6 December 2024

Millions of Aussies are bracing for extreme weather conditions this week as the east coast is drenched in heavy rain and the west is scorched by an intense heatwave.

Western Australia will continue to swelter under extreme heatwave conditions for at least five days with temperatures to reach at least 40C.

‘The heatwave in Western Australia is currently in desert and mining areas in the Pilbara before it starts to spread south over the next few days,’ weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke told Daily Mail Australia on Saturday.

‘It won’t develop on the coast until mid-to-late next week.’

Meanwhile the east coast is set to be hammered by torrential rainfall caused by unseasonable weather conditions usually experienced in January.

‘It’s delivered big rain and storms in South Australia and more recently in Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales,’ Mr Dutschke said.

Inland and northern parts of NSW can expect heavy downpours, thunderstorms and damaging winds before the system weakens on Sunday.

‘Once we get further into the week, that trough will stall over northeast New South Wales and much of Queensland with moisture to continue to build and cause intense rain and storms for a few days,’ Mr Dutschke said.
