The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of misinformation on election day.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Friday, December 6, 2024, a Co-Chair of CODEO, Elizabeth Joyce Villars, highlighted the increasing spread of misinformation on social media platforms.

According to her, the public must remain vigilant at all times to combat misinformation during this crucial period, both before, during, and after the elections.

Joyce Villars further urged Ghanaians to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of false information among the public.

“CODEO calls on the general public to be wary of misinformation and take preventive measures to stem the spread of false information,” she said.

CODEO further reiterated its commitment to ensuring peaceful, free, and fair polls, as well as maintaining the integrity of the elections.

“As an independent, impartial, and objective observer, CODEO assures Ghanaians of its role in ensuring electoral integrity. Our presence at polling stations will have a moderating influence on key actors, promoting peaceful and credible elections.”

She added, “We will also collaborate with the Electoral Commission, political parties, CSOs, international observers, and the media to achieve a successful election.”

Ghanaians will go to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to elect leaders for both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
