The Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) Ghana continues to make waves in global environmental advocacy as it actively participates in the fifth session of the United Nations Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC5) on Plastic Pollution in Busan, South Korea.

Representing GYAN Ghana at this critical international conference is Miss Asana Issah, a young and vibrant Project Assistant.

INC5, hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), brings together global stakeholders to negotiate a legally binding instrument aimed at ending plastic pollution. With the goal of fostering environmental sustainability and innovation, the conference serves as a significant platform for countries, organizations, and young leaders to discuss actionable steps toward combating plastic pollution.

Miss Issah’s involvement highlights GYAN Ghana’s commitment to amplifying youth voices in international decision-making spaces. Before embarking on this mission, GYAN Ghana had already established a strong track record of leadership in environmental and climate advocacy, as demonstrated by its impactful participation at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Speaking ahead of INC5, GYAN Ghana reaffirmed its dedication to addressing global plastic pollution while ensuring young people are at the forefront of sustainable solutions. The organization is leveraging platforms such as INC5 to form strategic partnerships and inspire youth-led initiatives, aligning with the broader objectives of the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA).

Miss Issah is expected to contribute to key deliberations, network with global change-makers, and bring back innovative strategies to inform GYAN’s local and regional environmental campaigns in Ghana and Africa at large.
