Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has disclosed that he has significantly reduced his marijuana consumption due to recent concerns about his mental health.

In an interview on Fakye Showbiz on November 24, 2024, Shatta Wale said he can now barely finish a full roll of marijuana, a contrast to his earlier habits.

“I used to smoke a lot, but as I’ve gotten older, I can barely finish a roll of weed anymore, and it’s mainly because of my mental health and overall health. Honestly, it feels like a waste of time now,” he said.

The dancehall musician also mentioned that he now undergoes regular health screenings every three months to monitor his well-being.

“When I’m over-stressed, I go to the hospital. Recently, I went for a check-up with Sammy Flex, and the doctor suggested I take an HIV test. Sammy was worried about the results, but when they came back, he was impressed,” he added.

The “Ayoo” hitmaker also addressed rumours that he uses hard drugs or smokes marijuana before every performance.

“I’ve never gone on stage high. People say I smoke or even take cocaine before performing, but that’s not true. Before I go on stage, I pray and drink water. If I were to take those substances, I’d probably black out because of the energy I give during my performances,” Shatta Wale stated.
