A viral video showing Ghanaian rapper, Edem blasting fans who have been asking him for money on social media has popped up.

Edem, during a live engagement on social media, was asked by a fan to help fund his rent money. An infuriated Edem, in reply, urged those struggling with high rent costs in Accra to consider returning to their villages, where they can find free housing and food.

“I beg you. If you don’t have money to rent in Accra, go back to your village. There is a free house with food over there. Don’t come and put your rent in somebody’s pocket,” Edem advised.

Directing his ire to a fan who had drawn his portrait and expected payment in return, Edem expressed his frustration, stating that he never requested these drawings and does not use them.

“Someone else said, ‘I drew you, but you didn’t give me money.’ Did I ask you to draw me? Do you know the number of people that draw me every day? If you draw me because you appreciate me, do that. I don’t even use the drawings for anything. You people will draw people. And by force, you want to collect money from them,” he remarked.

Edem isn’t the only creative who has clapped back at pressure from fans for financial favours, other celebrities, including actor and politician John Dumelo, have also resisted demands from netizens.
