A young man has drowned while swimming with friends at a popular swimming hole days out from the start of summer.

Emergency services rushed to Winifred Falls in the Royal National Park in Sydney‘s south at about 2.35pm on Monday following reports of a drowning.

The swimmer was pulled out of the water unconscious after he failed to resurface.

The man, 19, was unable to be revived at the scene, despite paramedics’ best efforts.

He’s yet to be formally identified, a NSW police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

Reception issues due to the remote location within the national park have complicated identifying the man and the circumstances surrounding his death.

‘Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death,’ a NSW Police statement read/

Authorities will prepare a report for the coroner.
