Popular gospel music artiste, Nana Osei, popularly known as Nacee, has bemoaned the financial challenges many gospel musicians face in Ghana.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on Talkertainment on GhanaWeb TV, Nacee pointed out that many event organisers do not compensate gospel artistes adequately, which hampers their ability to thrive in a competitive music industry.

“It’s finances. We lack financial support because most gospel musicians, mostly they go to programs, and then the event organisers are not paying them as much as they deserve. So we fight more than we are supposed to do,” he said.

Nacee added that increased financial support would enable gospel musicians to achieve greater success and recognition.

“I think with good finances or financial support, we will do more,” he said.

Nacee made this known at the 3rd edition of the Praise Achievement Awards ceremony.

The awards scheme, held in Accra on November 24, 2024, was to honour and recognise talents in the gospel music scene in Ghana.

Nacee emerged victorious, bagging five awards, including the Most Engaged Song of the Year, Song of the Year, Male Artiste of the Year, and the prestigious Artiste of the Year.

Asked what makes this awards scheme different from others, Nacee pointed out that, unlike other award schemes that mix gospel and secular music, the Praise Achievement Awards celebrate only gospel artistes, creating a supportive environment for the genre.

“It’s kind of different. This one is strictly gospel, so it’s more like you are competing with your own colleagues that you meet in church and other places. Which I kind of feel is a bit weird because they also deserve it. I wish everyone that is nominated would have a plaque to go home with,” he stated.
