The owner of newly promoted side Basake Holy Stars, Simon Ehomah, has defended Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, who has come under heavy criticism following Ghana’s disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

Many Ghanaian football fans have called for reforms, but Ehomah insists that Okraku remains the best person to lead the GFA.

Speaking in an interview on Connect FM, the Chairman of the Western Regional Football Association (WRFA) expressed optimism about the future of Ghanaian football.

He dismissed the criticism as coming mainly from journalists rather than football insiders.

“We know we will get there; we understand him [Kurt Okraku]. The only people complaining are journalists and not football people,” Ehomah said.

Ehomah also highlighted the support provided by the GFA under Okraku’s leadership, stating that it has significantly eased financial challenges for club owners. He added that he would back Okraku for a third term when his current tenure ends in 2027.

“We appreciate what Kurt Okraku is doing. He provides us with footballs, buses, and fuel, and this takes away a lot of our financial burdens. We will endorse the third term for Kurt if we are satisfied with his works,” he added.

Meanwhile, the GFA has issued a public apology to Ghanaians following the AFCON disappointment.

However, with fans still demanding significant reforms, the GFA is scheduled to meet with stakeholders on Thursday, November 28, 2024, to discuss strategies to improve the performance of Ghana’s national teams.
