Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage is facing the sack after his side dropped to the bottom of the Premier League with Thomas Frank in pole position to replace him.
Palace have won just two of their ten league matches this season, with Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool leaving them at the foot of the league for the first time in nearly nine years.
Sage is expected to become the first Premier League manager sacked this season and former Spurs boss Frank is considered the frontrunner to take over.
Sean Dyche, though, also has his admirers at Selhurst Park.
However, Sage believes his side have been unlucky with results this season and has requested the hierarchy remain patient.
The 47-year-old, who left RC Lens for Palace in the summer to succeed Oliver Glasner, also admitted the Palace squad needs strengthening – perhaps to absolve himself of some blame.
Crystal Palace are set to sack Pierre Sage with the club bottom of the Premier League
‘You can create the links between these two things,’ Sage replied when asked whether being bottom of the league heading into the international break could see him sacked.
‘But a lot of times I’ve said we deserved better and it was the case again on Sunday.
‘My job is not the most important thing, as I always said from the beginning. The most important thing is to find an efficient solution for the team and for the club.
‘I know how important it is for the club to stay in the Premier League. The club just have to believe in that, and if it’s not the case, they will take a decision.
‘I always have confidence in myself because it’s a big, big mistake to not be 100% involved in what I have to do.
‘We have to adjust some positions during the winter transfer window to give more solutions and more efficiency and I think it will be okay.’
