WBC #2-ranked flyweight Thananchai Charunphak (33-2, 16 KOs) successfully retained his WBC Asia flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Joperson Trazo (9-3-1, 2 KOs) on Friday, October 30, at Nakornloung Stadium in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
This was the second defense of the WBC regional title for the Thai fighter, who previously challenged for a WBA world title, losing by split decision to Japanese fighter Seigo Yuri Akui on October 13, 2024.
Thananchai maintained control for the majority of the bout, landing the more accurate punches. The Filipino boxer, however, managed to mount several attacks that caused significant trouble for the Thai fighter, particularly in the third and final rounds. Additionally, Trazo had points deducted in the seventh round for repeated intentional headbutts. At the end of the contest, Thananchai was declared the winner by scores of 99-90, 98-91, and 98-91.
Following the fight, Thananchai’s manager stated that his next title defense will be against a champion from the Philippines as part of his preparation for a world title challenge next year.
In other action, welterweight Atisan Leevongcharoen (2-0) scored a TKO victory over Saranporn Deenam at 2:21 of the fourth round of an eight-round non-title bout.
The event was promoted by Surachart Pisitwutthinan of Nakornloung Boxing Promotions.
