British boxing sensation Adam Azim faces the biggest test of his career when he takes on Mexico’s Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela in an IBF World Super Lightweight Title Eliminator on Friday, December 4, at the Copper Box Arena in London.
At just 24 years old, Azim has established himself as one of boxing’s brightest young stars. Following a blistering third-round stoppage victory over Steve Claggett in May, the explosive super lightweight is now on the brink of his first world title opportunity.
Standing in his way is the battle-hardened Valenzuela, a dangerous Mexican contender who has shared the ring with some of the division’s leading names.
Valenzuela went toe-to-toe with former world champion Subriel Matías in March last year before suffering a controversial split-decision defeat to fellow Mexican Lindolfo Delgado in another IBF world title eliminator in November.
The 32-year-old from Guadalajara is no stranger to fighting on British soil, having defeated Azim’s former stablemate Robbie Davies Jr in London in February 2021 to claim the IBF International Super Lightweight Title.
Adam Azim said: “This is the biggest fight of my career. I’ve put in the hard work to get to this position and now it’s time to show everyone what I can do. Valenzuela is a tough, experienced fighter and I’m preparing for the very best version of him. I know what’s at stake and I’m ready to deliver. My dream has always been to become world champion. This is the final test standing between me and that opportunity, and I’m not going to let anything get in my way.”
Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela said: “This is a massive opportunity for me. Adam Azim is a talented young fighter with a big future, but he has never faced anyone like me before. I’ve shared the ring with some of the best fighters in the world and that experience will make the difference on fight night. I know what it takes to compete at this level and I’m ready to show everyone what I can do. I’m coming to London to win. Victory will be coming home to Mexico with me.”
BOXXER Founder & CEO Ben Shalom said: “This is a huge moment in Adam Azim’s career and a massive opportunity for him to take another step towards becoming world champion.
“Adam has established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in world boxing, but this is a serious test. Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela is a dangerous, experienced opponent who has competed at the highest level and will be coming to London determined to secure his own world title opportunity. We’ve always believed Adam has the talent to become a superstar of the sport, and now he has the chance to prove he belongs among the very best in the division.”
Fans can look forward to a stacked undercard at the Copper Box Arena, featuring some of British boxing’s most exciting talents looking to make their mark on the sport’s biggest stage.
Francesca Hennessy, one of the brightest young stars in women’s boxing, continues her meteoric rise as she faces France’s unbeaten Johanna Wonyou for the WBC Interim World Bantamweight Title.
In a battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects, Elliot Whale and Bobby Faulkner put their perfect records on the line when they collide for the WBA Continental Welterweight Title.
Olympic bronze medallist Frazer Clarke returns to action, while unbeaten prospect Hassan Azim, the older brother of headliner Adam Azim, faces the undefeated Ruben Torres.
