President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has reassured Ghanaians that steps will be taken to address the Black Stars’ disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

This follows the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Black Stars picked up just three points from six games, scoring only three goals and finishing last in what was a deeply disappointing campaign for the four-time African champions.

In a statement released by the FA president, Okraku acknowledged the disappointment but called for calm and unity as the sport’s leaders come together to address the issues.

In a post on Facebook, he wrote: “From the highest heights of world football on the 29th of March 2022 to the lowest ebb of AFCON qualifying matches. My heart bleeds, this is definitely not what we wanted or bargained for. At this point, only cool heads can prevail. We, as leaders of our sport, will stay united, be honest with ourselves, and fix this problem.”

Although the FA president admitted that the recovery process would be challenging, he expressed solidarity with the fans and assured them that the Black Stars would bounce back.

“The road to full recovery after normalization is undoubtedly bumpy and rough, but our collective efforts and patience will ensure Ghana, our beloved country, triumphs.

“As a Black Stars fan and as the leader, I share in your pain and our pain. We will rise from this temporary setback. It shall be well,” the post concluded.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the Ghana Football Association will meet with the team’s Executive Council to deliberate on the Black Stars’ performances and outline plans for the future.
