The Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) and affected graduating medical and dental students have sued the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), seeking to restrain the regulator from conducting the Common Registration Examination (CRE).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and signed by its National Executive Council, FGMSA said the case had been filed at the High Court’s Human Rights Division in Accra.
The applicants are seeking an injunction to prevent the examination from being conducted pending the determination of the substantive legal issues before the court.
The action follows unsuccessful attempts to resolve their concerns through engagement with the relevant authorities, according to the Federation.
“FGMSA remains committed to protecting the interests of medical and dental students and will pursue the legal process to its conclusion,” the statement said.
The Common Registration Examination is a new licensing examination introduced by the MDC for graduating medical and dental students.
Its implementation has drawn opposition from some students, who have raised concerns about the examination and its potential implications for their careers.
FGMSA said it had previously engaged the MDC and other relevant authorities in an effort to resolve the concerns, but those efforts did not produce an agreement, prompting the legal action.
The application seeks to prevent the MDC from proceeding with the examination while the court considers the issues raised by the applicants.
