President John Mahama says his government has secured funding for the Tamale, Damango and Yendi water projects to improve access to potable water for residents.

Speaking on Monday, 19th October, when the Regent of the Dagbon Kingdom paid a courtesy call on him, the President said the Finance Minister had secured the funding.

“We have secured the funding for the Tamale, Damango and also the Yendi water systems. Indeed, the Minister of Finance was in the European Union, and it has been approved, and so very soon work will commence on this water system,” the President noted.

Ahead of the commencement of the project, he said, “In the meantime, we have financed the change of the old pumps at the old water works, and so by next month, in November, when the new pumps start working, Tamale will see an increase in water supply even before the EU project.”

The package will support the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project, which seeks to improve water supply and sanitation services in Tamale and Yendi, both in the Northern Region, and Damongo in the Savannah Region.

It comprises €98 million grants and a €225 million highly concessional financing facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB)

The projects are expected to improve water supply to the beneficiary communities.
