The alleged fraudster accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and other wealthy people to scam women out of a combined $1.3 million has pleaded not guilty in a federal courtroom in Portland, Oregon.
Daejon Love, 35, is facing a count of conspiring to commit wire fraud. A public defender pleaded not guilty on his behalf before Magistrate Judge Jolie A. Russo on Tuesday.
He and his alleged accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, were arrested in August at an airport in Boise, Idaho. Love has remained behind bars ahead of his trial set to start on December 15.
Meanwhile, Netflix has announced plans to produce a documentary on his story. Titled ‘Untold: Wide Deceiver,’ the piece centers on first-hand accounts from Love’s alleged victims, who say they were swindled by the fake NFL player.
‘The scheme relied on Love’s creation of fictitious personas and display of a lavish lifestyle which Love presented to victims both in person and on social media websites,’ read the US attorney’s statement at the time of his arrest. ‘Love falsely portrayed himself as legitimately wealthy, often as a receiver for the San Francisco 49ers or as a wealthy real estate investor.’
The criminal complaint, obtained by the Daily Mail, lays out evidence against Love – including an alleged lie to at least one woman that he was related to Jordan Love, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.

Love is accused of pretending to be an NFL player to swindle two dozen women
Additionally, Daejon falsely claimed he had relationships with current and former NFL receivers such as Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown and John ‘Smoke’ Brown.
Love and Chan allegedly invented fake investment opportunities to defraud women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. The alleged scheme is said to have started in February of 2022.
In one accusation, Love allegedly convinced women to send him $17,200 after they met on Tinder in March of 2025. The two went on a date, with Love later asking ‘about her financial situation and if she was interested in investing.’
‘[The woman] did not receive any confirmation of the investments,’ the complaint said. ‘When [the woman] asked Love about the investments, Love stopped communicating with her.’
Love showed off his lavish lifestyle on social media and numerous new clips have surfaced
Love is accused of conning at least 26 women out of $1.3 million. He remains in custody
Per the court filing, Love claimed to have exercised with various NFL players – including Hill and Brown. The filing also says Love claimed to have received ‘invitations to try out with NFL teams’ before he ‘chose’ the 49ers.
It’s further alleged that Love initiated contact with most of the women through online dating apps while Chan would pose as Love’s financial adviser to gain their victims’ trust and talk victims through prospective investments.
Financial records show Love and Chan received around $1.3m from their victims, according to the criminal complaint. There have been 26 alleged victims identified. The FBI, however, believes there are far more.
By late summer, authorities were prepared to make an arrest in the case.
The FBI discovered that, on August 24, Chan was flying from California to meet up with Love in Boise. Love was in Idaho allegedly to meet new victims and officers swooped in to apprehend both men at an airport.
