Two men have died after a light plane crashed near an aerodrome in the Upper Hunter region.

Emergency services were called to a paddock on Bunnan Road, near the Scone Aerodrome, at about 1.55pm on Friday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found that a light plane had crashed.

The two male occupants of the plane had died. Inquiries are underway to identify them.

Police and paramedics attended the scene, with one NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) truck deployed and NSW Fire and Rescue crews also assisting.

A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist officers.

Recreational Aviation Australia and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have been notified of the crash.

A report will also be prepared for the coroner.

    More to come.
