A heroic dog saved its owners’ lives after a massive fire broke out at a home in Oregon but did not make it out alive itself, officials said.
The inferno sparked just before 2am on Wednesday in Tigard, a suburb located about 10 miles outside of Portland, and quickly engulfed the property in bright orange flames.
People inside only learned of the emergency after the family’s dog alerted them, but now the pup ‘is believed to have died in the fire,’ Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said.
A resident suffered burns, and another was injured after they jumped from a balcony to escape. They have not been identified.
Three other unnamed occupants fled the home unharmed, the agency stated.
Pet birds who lived inside the home are also presumed to have died, while another dog made it out safely, the department said.
The injured residents were transported to a local hospital for further treatment. According to the Tigard Police Department, they are expected to be OK.
Because of the intense flames, firefighters had to deploy hose lines on all sides of the home to battle the fire from the outside, officials explained.

But as the fire grew, the walls and ceilings of the home started to collapse.
Firefighters were able to get the flames under control with just one fire hydrant available. They also kept the fire from spreading to trees and nearby shrubs in the area.
Just before 7am that same morning, the fire reignited, and fire crews had to rush back to the property to put out hotspots, Fox 12 reported.
A hotspot is an active smoldering area of heat that remains after the main flames have passed.
The home is now considered a total loss, and the family that once lived there has found alternate living arrangements, the department said.
Several cars parked on the property were also burned in the fire, video shared by the fire agency showed.
Investigators are looking into what sparked the disastrous blaze, according to the fire department.
Eerie bodycam footage released by the police department also captured the frightening scene.

Terrifying police bodycam footage captured the moment an officer arrived at the buring home that morning
In it, a male officer pulled up to the home, which was clearly ablaze, and screamed: ‘Is anybody inside?’
A woman responded frantically, stating: ‘The whole house is on fire.’
The cop asked if that was her home, and after the woman appeared to say no, he told her to stay put as he approached the burning home.
At one point, a loud boom was heard near the home as fire crews, ambulances, and more officers arrived on scene.
The Daily Mail contacted Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and the Tigard Police Department for comment.
