A Ghanaian plastic wares seller at the Dome Market in Accra says he regrets not furthering his education.

Isaac had aspired to become a soldier in Ghana, but his lack of the necessary education prevented him from achieving this goal.

He explained that he quit school at the junior high level in the Volta Region to pursue business.

Despite having the financial means to continue his education, he chose to leave school because of stubbornness and his new focus on business.

In an exclusive interview on GhanaWeb TV’s Everyday People, he shared his story and reflected on his decision to prioritise business over education.

“I wanted to be a soldier, but I couldn’t because I didn’t attend school much. I quit in form two and started this business. Initially, I sold ‘foose’ (second-hand clothing) until someone from Kumasi introduced me to selling plastic wares. He brought some goods and told me there was money in it, so, I started helping him sell. We began hawking plastic wares and sometimes travelled to Tamale to sell. Eventually, I saved enough money and returned to Accra to sell full-time.

“I was a bit stubborn, so I stopped going to school, especially when I realised there was money in this business,” he said.

When asked if he regrets not furthering his education, Isaac admitted that he does.

He said he believes that continuing his education would have helped him achieve his goal of becoming a soldier.

He also emphasised that while there is money in the business, furthering his education would have been a plus for him.

He said, “I really do regret not furthering my education. What I want to be in life, I cannot be. The business is good, although it can sometimes go down and then rise again. At least, maybe a government job or something else would have been better.”

Currently, Isaac can boast of owning a half plot of land and has also built three chamber and hall buildings for his family in the village.
