Donald Trump has announced that more than 20 million Americans on Medicare will receive surprise payments of almost $100 within days, with the money landing directly in bank accounts or arriving as checks in the mail.
The president unveiled the one-time Medicare payments on Friday, saying his administration was tapping a little-used federal fund to give money directly back to people struggling with healthcare costs.
But not everyone on Medicare will get the cash.
The payments are aimed at helping eligible Medicare Part B enrollees cover their premiums, and the White House says most recipients should see the $90 arrive in their bank accounts early this month.
Those who already have their Medicare premiums paid by Medicaid will not qualify, while higher-income beneficiaries who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, commonly known as IRMAA, are also excluded.

For everyone else who qualifies, no application appears to be necessary.
People who normally receive federal payments by direct deposit are expected to have the $90 deposited into their bank accounts.
Those without direct deposit will instead receive a check sent to the address they have registered with Medicare, according to the White House.
The administration says more than 20 million people will benefit.
