Benji Birchell (10-0, 9KOs) successfully captured the vacant WBO Youth International 126lb title when he stopped Chanathip Phinok (4-1, 4KOs) on Saturday, September 26, at FCC Boxing, Pattaya, Thailand.
This was the 3rd title winning of 17-year-old Aussie boy who is now a hot prospect of Australian Boxing. He won the PAT International 118lb title on February 7, and later he defeated former WBO world title challenger Prasitsak Phaprom on June 27 to capture the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) 122lb title.
The fight was exciting from the opening round when Chanathip opened the show by pressing the action and trading blows with Birchell, evenly matched contest over the first two rounds. From the third round onwards, however, the Australian appeared stronger and landed precise punches, causing the Thai fighter to tire. The action finally ended in the fourth round when Birchell launched a fierce attack, knocking Chanathip down for an eight-count; he then unleashed a relentless one-sided assault, forcing referee Sawaeng Thaweekoon to stop the bout at the 2:39.
In other co-main event, former WBO/IBF/WBA world champion Marlon Tapales (42-5, 23KOs) dropped Nirun Baonok (15-35) twice, scoring a KO at 1:05 of round two. Tapales captured the vacant WBF International 126lb title.
Undercards results:
Criztian Pitt Laurente (17-0, 11KOs) dropped Benchalong Tanbu (7-3-1, 3KOs) twice with his vicious bodyshots, scoring a KO at 2:34 of round three. Laurente captured the vacant WBF International 135lb title.
Shahanzhati Xiaohelaiti (3-1) won a 98-92, 97-93, 95-95 majority decision over Attavut Mailwan (12-6, 6KOs) to capture the vacant ABF 147lb title.
Super Welterweight (6 rounds) former OPBF Silver 154lb title holder Usman Wazzer (19-0, 13KOs) won a 60-54, 59-55, 57-57 majority decision over Ari Agustian (10-3, 10KOs)
Middleweight (6 rounds) former WBF world champion Tommy Browne (51-9-2, 25KOs) won a TKO over Kritsana Srisang (12-6, 10KOs) at 0:32 of round three.
Middleweight (6 rounds) Temirzhan Baimolda (11-1, 7KOs) won a TKO over Jatsada Pithakdanthai (10-17) at 2:31 of round four.
Super Bantamweight (6 rounds) Benaicha Abdelhafid (8-1) won a KO over Manot Comput (18-44) at 2:21 of round three.
Lightweight (6 rounds) Sajjad Hussain (6-0) won a TKO over Pearsdon Pilasree (2-1) at 2:10 of the opening round.
Light Heavyweight (6 rounds) Daishaun Middleton (5-0) won a TKO over Nawinta Patthum (0-2) at 0:30 of the opening round.
Middleweight (6 rounds) Yugandhar Tambat (9-6, 4KOs) won a 58-56, 58-56, 55-59 split decision over Wanxuan Lin (1-4).
Super Bantamweight (4 rounds) Harrison George Winters (2-4) won a TKO over Thanakon Aonyaem (0-5) at 2:50 of round three.
Cruiserweight (4 rounds) Michael Lekkas (1-0) won a TKO over Jakkapong Krumram (0-2) at 1:38 of round two.
