Three-time world champion Kenia “Mexican Queen” Enriquez (29-1, 11KO) officially began the next chapter of her boxing career with a successful return to the ring on Saturday, August 29, scoring a dominant unanimous decision victory over Luz Elena Aguilar (9-13-2, 2KO) in the main event of Televisa’s Saturday night prime-time live boxing broadcast from her hometown of Tijuana.
The event was presented by Latin KO Promotions led by Oswaldo Kuchle.
After approximately two and a half years away from professional boxing, Enriquez returned in front of her hometown supporters with the same determination and championship pedigree that established her as one of the leading fighters in the 112-pound division. The former world champion controlled the action throughout the eight-round flyweight contest, earning a wide unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards.
Enriquez’s victory marked the beginning of a new chapter for the 32-year-old fighter, who has made it clear that her objective is to return to the championship level and pursue the biggest and most meaningful fights available in the flyweight division.
The significance of her comeback was reflected immediately in the latest rankings of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), which has placed Enriquez at No. 3 in the world at flyweight.
With her return victory now behind her, Enriquez is also expected to receive at least a top-three recognition from the World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Association (WBA), and World Boxing Council (WBC) in their upcoming rankings.
“I’m very happy to be back and to have started this new chapter with a victory in front of my people in Tijuana,” said Enriquez. “I know there is still work to do, but my goal is clear. I want the biggest fights at 112 pounds and I want another world championship opportunity.”
Enriquez’s return comes after a period away from professional boxing during which she also tested herself in mixed martial arts, compiling an undefeated 3-0 record under the Combate Global banner.
Now positioned near the top of the rankings across the major sanctioning bodies, Enriquez is prepared to move quickly.
With the IBF already ranking her No. 3 and additional top-three rankings expected from the WBO, WBA and WBC, the “Mexican Queen” has placed herself in position to pursue the division’s elite.
