A parent has raised concerns over the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) placement of his ward at the Mampong Akwapim School for the Deaf, insisting that the child can hear and speak.

The frustrated parent questioned why the placement system would assign his ward to a school meant for deaf students when, according to him, the child has no hearing or speech impairment.

“He can hear, he can speak. How do you go and place him at Mampong Akwapim School for Deaf? That’s what I don’t understand. Why?” he asked.

The parent was speaking at the CSSPS resolution centre at KTI Hall in Kumasi, where several parents and guardians have gathered to seek solutions to challenges arising from the 2026 school placement exercise.

Some of the concerns brought before officials include students being placed in schools they did not select, as well as cases involving pending placements and difficulties securing suitable schools for their wards.

According to the parent, his attempt to resolve the issue at the centre has so far not yielded the outcome he was hoping for.

He explained that officials informed him that if he wanted his ward to be placed in a Category B or STEM school, he would have to pursue a protocol placement.

He was subsequently asked whether he would be willing to accept a Category C school for his ward.

“I said then they should keep him in Category C school. I don’t have any option,” he stated.

The parent is now appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to intervene and review the placement.

He wants the authorities to reassess his ward’s placement and assign the child to a school that is appropriate for his educational needs and circumstances.
