A woman has been found dead in a pond at a popular park in Lancashire.
Police were called to Lowther Gardens in Lytham at around 9am on Monday following reports of a body in the water.
Officers initially said the woman’s death was being treated as ‘unexplained’. In an update, the force said the death was not being treated as suspicious and that a report would be prepared for the coroner.
‘Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time,’ police said. The woman’s identity is yet to be established.
Entrances to the park were blocked by police vehicles and the gardens were closed as an investigation was started. Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene.
A walking group due to enter the park at 10.30am was said to be ‘shocked’ by the gruesome discovery.

Up to 10 staff members in the Lowther Pavilion theatre were asked to stay inside the building as police looked around the area.
The theatre reopened at 11am for an afternoon classical music recital and an evening concert by Rick Wakeman, the keyboardist for the progressive rock band Yes.
The park, which has a playground, padel courts and a bowling green, is popular with young families, dog walkers and pensioners.
Lancashire Police confirmed the incident was being treated as non-suspicious. A spokesman said: ‘At 9am on Monday, September 7, we were called to reports of a body found in a pond at Lowther Gardens, Lowther Terrace, Lytham. Emergency services attended the scene and very sadly found the body of a woman.
‘Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time. Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.’
