The largest indigenous cocoa-buying company in Ghana, the Produce Buying Company (PBC), has declined, and NDC flagbearer John Mahama has blamed the fall on the ruling NPP administration.

Mr. Mahama claimed that PBC’s problems are a symptom of a larger problem that many Ghanaian businesses face, citing the company as an obvious example of poor management.

He voiced worry about the challenges PBC employees face, pointing out that many had allegedly been unpaid for eight to nine months. According to Mr. Mahama, the government’s inability to establish a clear timeline for the payment of past-due salary shows a lack of concern for the welfare of Ghanaian workers.

The former president also asserted that PBC’s difficulties are indicative of larger economic issues facing the nation, claiming that many local companies are facing same difficulties under the present administration.

He ascribed this to what he believes to be the NPP government’s inadequate leadership and mismanagement of the economy. Mr. Mahama urged supporters to vote for change during his remarks at a campaign rally in Enchi Aowin, which is in the Western North Region.

He emphasized the need of having a government that puts local enterprises and employees first and promised that, under his direction, more focus will be placed on preserving and reviving Ghanaian businesses.

“The economy has weakened during the past eight years. During my presidency, PBC purchased 30% of Ghana’s cocoa. They are no longer able to do so.

The business has failed under this administration. They haven’t been able to pay the employees as much for eight years.
