Kings Promotions presented “Ring Wars 24” Saturday night at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, with Baltimore’s Muhammad “The Real Deal” Robinson earning a unanimous decision over Estivan Falcao in the eight-round lightweight main event.
The nine-bout card featured a mixture of prospects and veterans, with five of the night’s contests ending by stoppage.
Robinson Outpoints Falcao
Robinson faced Estivan Falcao in the eight-round main event.
The opening round was competitive, with Robinson holding a slight edge. Falcao turned the momentum in the second, however, staggering Robinson with an uppercut. Falcao also had the better of the third before Robinson re-established himself in the fourth.
Robinson took control during the second half of the fight, becoming the busier and more accurate fighter. He landed a solid right hand in the sixth round as he continued to dictate the action.
The bout went the distance without a knockdown. The judges scored the fight 78-74, 79-73 and 79-73, all for Robinson, giving him a unanimous decision victory.
Robinson improves to 11-1 (6 KOs), while Falcao falls to 14-5 (8 KOs).
Albright Stops Phillips After Fifth-Round Rally
Quadir “Savage C4” Albright and Jaylan “NP” Phillips engaged in a competitive welterweight contest that changed dramatically in the fifth round.
Phillips was effective from the outside early, landing straight punches while Albright pressured and worked the body. Phillips remained the more active and accurate fighter through the second and third rounds.
The fourth saw both men fight more from the outside, where Phillips’ volume and accuracy again gave him an advantage.
That changed in the fifth. Albright connected with a straight right that sent Phillips off the canvas. Phillips beat the count, but Albright immediately followed with another barrage. A second right hand sent Phillips staggering backward and through the ropes.
Referee David Fields stopped the contest at 1:35 of the fifth round, awarding Albright the victory by TKO.
Albright improves to 13-1 (13 KOs). Phillips falls to 6-7-4 (2 KOs).
Madison Stops Riley in Third
The heavyweight matchup between Colby Madison and Lemir Riley also ended dramatically.
Madison, the taller and rangier fighter, controlled the opening round. Riley responded in the second by pinning Madison against the ropes and outworking him for an extended stretch.
Once the fighters returned to the center of the ring, however, Madison landed a jumping left hook that stunned Riley and set up a knockdown at the end of the round.
Riley beat the count, but Madison quickly ended the fight in the third. A big right hand landed in the opening seconds of the round, and referee David Braslow immediately stopped the contest at 21 seconds.
Madison wins by TKO and improves to 14-11-3 (9 KOs). Riley falls to 6-7 (3 KOs).
Boler Scores Two Knockdowns Against Torres
Las Vegas’ Adrien Boler made his first professional appearance on the East Coast against Puerto Rico’s Nicky Torres in a six-round welterweight bout.
Boler had the edge in the opening round, while Torres settled into the fight in the second. The momentum changed dramatically in the closing seconds of the round when Boler landed a head shot that sent Torres to the canvas.
Torres beat the count, though he was unsteady on his feet, and the round ended shortly afterward.
Boler came out aggressively in the third. A left hook produced another knockdown, and referee David Fields immediately stopped the contest.
The official time was 29 seconds of the third round, giving Boler the TKO victory.
Boler remains unbeaten at 8-0 (5 KOs). Torres falls to 5-4-2 (3 KOs).
Pettis Takes Decision Over Gonzalez
Lightweight prospects Trakwon “Superman” Pettis and Julian “Gifted” Gonzalez met in an eight-round bout.
Gonzalez started as the aggressor, pressing forward while Pettis looked to counter. Beginning in the third, Pettis’ boxing skills became increasingly effective as he controlled the action from distance.
Gonzalez had one of his better rounds in the sixth, including an exchange that bloodied Pettis’ nose. The final two rounds were competitive, with Pettis continuing to use his reach and accuracy effectively.
The bout went the distance without a knockdown. Pettis earned a unanimous decision with scores of 78-74, 77-75 and 78-74.
Pettis improves to 8-1 (3 KOs), while Gonzalez falls to 16-3-1 (12 KOs).
Gjolena Wins Majority Decision
Undefeated Albanian heavyweight Luis “Big Lu” Gjolena entered his six-round bout against Robert Simms with a 24-pound weight advantage.
Simms was the more active and accurate puncher during the first two rounds. Gjolena gradually took control as Simms’ activity diminished in the third and fourth, while Gjolena maintained his pressure.
The fifth was competitive, with both fighters finding success, before Gjolena produced his busiest round of the fight in the sixth.
The bout went the distance without a knockdown. The judges scored it 57-57, 59-55 and 60-54, giving Gjolena the victory by majority decision.
Gjolena remains unbeaten at 10-0-1 (6 KOs). Simms falls to 12-8-1 (3 KOs).
Bernadin Ends Losing Streak With Fifth-Round Stoppage
James “No Chill” Bernadin entered his six-round welterweight bout against Dashaun “Too Sweet” Johns looking to snap a three-fight losing streak.
Bernadin established himself as the harder puncher early, frequently using his straight right against the southpaw Johns.
Johns had a strong stretch in the third round, boxing from the outside, landing his jab and catching Bernadin as he moved forward. Bernadin regained control later in the round by landing power punches.
Bernadin hurt Johns multiple times in the fourth before continuing his assault at the start of the fifth. He scored a knockdown that sent Johns face-first to the canvas, prompting referee David Braslow to stop the contest.
The official time was 22 seconds of the fifth round, giving Bernadin the TKO victory.
The win snaps Bernadin’s losing streak and gives him his first knockout in more than three years. He improves to 14-5-1 (7 KOs), while Johns falls to 4-11 (3 KOs).
Akana Wins Split Decision in Return
Hawaiian heavyweight Elijah “War Chief” Akana returned to the ring after more than two years away, facing Giovanni Payne in a four-round contest.
Akana outworked Payne in the opening round. Both fighters landed significant punches in the second, with Payne’s overhand right staggering Akana.
Akana responded by outworking Payne over the final two rounds, including a flurry in at the end of the fourth.
The fight went the distance without a knockdown. Two judges scored the bout 39-37 for Akana, while one had it 39-37 for Payne, giving Akana the victory by split decision.
Akana improves to 2-1 (1 KO). Payne falls to 1-2.
