Gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy, born Mercy Twum-Ampofo, says she has not experienced envy within the gospel music industry, dismissing suggestions that the sector is characterised by jealousy and rivalry.

She said although envy and malice could exist in any industry that attracted public attention, she could not speak authoritatively about such sentiments among gospel musicians because she had not personally encountered them.

Speaking on Prime Time with George and Mercury Quaye on August 19, 2026, the ‘Oheneba’ hitmaker said she remained focused on her calling and had not allowed herself to be distracted by perceptions of envy within the industry.

“The devil is everywhere, but I have not heard of any envy in the gospel music industry. I’ve not experienced it, so I can’t talk about it,” Ohemaa Mercy said.

She said she remained confident in her calling and believed that her faith and divine backing would enable her to overcome any opposition she might encounter.

“No one can stop me, because I’m not alone. The host of heaven is with me,” she stated.

    Tehillah Experience

Ohemaa Mercy also spoke about the spiritual significance of her annual Tehillah Experience, which is now in its 13th year.

She described the event as a revival that reaches families and challenges what she described as spiritual strongholds, saying its impact had attracted opposition from the devil.

“Spiritually, there’s a battle by the devil himself because Tehillah Experience breaks into families’ altars. It’s basically a revival, and it comes like a burning fire,” she said.

She attributed the continued success of the event to prayer and God’s intervention.

“God is helping me because of my prayers,” she added.

The gospel musician explained that because the Tehillah Experience was organised as a free event, she had to make personal sacrifices to finance and sustain it.

She disclosed that on some occasions, she had sold her cars to raise funds to keep the event going.

“Sometimes I have to sell some of my cars to make sure that Tehillah Experience moves on. I sell my car and walk, because without sacrifice, you cannot see the glory,” she said.

    Music and spirituality

Ohemaa Mercy further disclosed that she never released a song without first praying over it, stressing that she believed God’s hand should accompany her music.

She cited her song ‘Mennwu Da’ as an example, saying she believed its message could have a profound impact on listeners, including patients in hospitals.

According to her, gospel music should not be treated as ordinary entertainment because of its potential spiritual impact.

“You cannot release a song just like that. Even worldly musicians seek God,” she said.

Ohemaa Mercy’s comments reflect her conviction that her music and the Tehillah Experience are extensions of her Christian faith and ministry, rather than merely artistic or entertainment ventures.
