Former Fisheries Minister and MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has officially submitted her nomination for the position of National Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The former Awutu Senya East MP made the announcement this morning after leading her campaign team to meet the NPP’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at his office ahead of submitting her nomination forms at the party headquarters.

“We officially communicated my intention to run for the position of National Women Organizer of our esteemed party, the New Patriotic Party,” Koomson stated.

She said her decision is driven by what she described as the “pivotal moment” the NPP finds itself in ahead of the 2028 elections.

“Our party stands at a pivotal moment; the upcoming leadership will be vital for the survival of our democracy, our party, and our nation. The current government, led by the NDC, is steering Ghana toward uncertain waters, leaving the citizens with little hope for the future. It is imperative that the NPP steps in to rectify this trajectory,” she said.

According to Koomson, the Women’s Wing will be central to the party’s efforts to return to power.

“The Women’s Wing of the NPP holds a fundamental role in this rescue mission. However, fulfilling this role demands bold, assertive, and courageous leadership to galvanize our efforts towards a victorious outcome in 2028,” she added.

The former minister pledged to build a stronger and more effective wing if given the mandate.

“My ambition is not merely to occupy a position but to spearhead an organized and dynamic women’s wing that is fully equipped to secure victory for the NPP and for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia,” she said.

She concluded that “This is my solemn commitment to you, and I wholeheartedly invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a brighter future for Ghana.”

Hawa Koomson was accompanied by key party women and supporters during the visit.

The NPP is expected to hold its National Executive elections later this year to elect new leaders who will steer the party into the 2028 polls.
