A key witness in Tupac Shakur’s murder trial claimed he wouldn’t send Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis to prison as a result of his testimony.

James McDonald, who referred to himself as a ‘hostile witness’ in the rapper’s murder trial on Tuesday, testified that he worked in security for Death Row Records for several years and was stationed at Suge Knight’s 662 club the evening that Tupac was shot.

Under questioning by the defense, he told jurors that ‘everybody was there’ the night the rapper was killed, but that he wouldn’t name names when pressed by attorneys.

‘I don’t want to send him to prison, even though we don’t like each other,’ McDonald said, referring to Davis. ‘You’re asking me questions that can hurt him…You’re asking something that’s gonna hurt this dude.’

Former South Side Compton Crips honcho ‘Keefe D’ is on trial for allegedly orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed Tupac in retaliation for the rapper and his entourage’s attack on Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson.

Davis, the only person to ever be charged in the case, is facing one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. He has pleaded not guilty and faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Death Row Records witness dodges questions on the stand in court

Former Death Row Records security employee James McDonald got combative with Duane Davis’ defense lawyer Michael Sanft on the stand in Tupac’s murder trial on Tuesday.

McDonald, a member of the Mob Piru Bloods, maintained that he did not want to testify in court and became flustered under-cross examination by the defense.

After Sanft asked him what he heard in the aftermath of Tupac’s shooting on September 7, 1996, McDonald replied ‘Are you sure you want me to answer that? I don’t want to send him to prison, even though we don’t like each other,’ he said, referring to Davis.

‘You’re asking me questions that can hurt him…You’re asking something that’s gonna hurt this dude,’ he continued.

Tupac’s humiliating intimate disfigurement revealed… and how his lies to cover it up led to his murder

When Tupac Shakur pulled up to a Manhattan recording studio, he was uneasy. Something felt off. His friend and rival Christopher Wallace, known as Biggie Smalls, was inside with his manager Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, but the men in army fatigues stationed outside unsettled him.

Still, he was about to make $7,000, recording some lyrics for an up-and-coming rapper.

Tupac pressed on. Little did he know that crossing the threshold would ignite one of the most consequential fuses in music history. The true story of that infamous night went untold until last year, when a new account of the hip-hop legend’s life and death was published.
