Furious fans slammed ESPN on Tuesday after technical glitches disrupted the broadcast of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever’s game against the Toronto Tempo.

What was supposed to be a showcase moment – marking Clark’s first WNBA game in Canada – turned into a frustrating experience for viewers tuning in.

As the game got underway, viewers were met with frozen screens, video stuttering, and recurring audio dropouts that left play-by-play caller Ryan Ruocco completely muted for long stretches.

Social media was instantly flooded with complaints as basketball fans vented their frustration over the network’s production quality.

‘Anyone else’s ESPN broadcast so trash right now?’ one fan posted on X, echoing a sentiment shared by hundreds of viewers during the broadcast.

Another wrote: ‘Anybody else’s espn broadcast glitching like crazy rn? Or just me?’

‘This espn broadcast giving me a headache,’ added a third frustrated viewer.

Meanwhile, another pointed out the missed opportunity for the network: ‘ESPN fumbling this Fever vs Toronto broadcast tonight.’

The broadcast issues became severe enough that Ruocco was forced to address the situation live on air to offer an apology to those watching at home.

‘By the way, we appreciate your patience with us tonight,’ Ruocco explained during a stoppage in play.

‘There are different times where you’re seeing hits on your screen, or it’s freezing, or you lose your voice. And believe me, it’s as frustrating for us as it is for you, so we appreciate your patience with the technical difficulties.’

Despite the off-court technical headaches, the sold-out crowd inside the arena witnessed Clark take the floor in Toronto for the very first time, adding another chapter to the Fever’s heavily viewed 2026 campaign.

How should networks be held accountable when technical failures ruin fans’ big game moments?

Prior to the game, Clark said: ‘This is my first time in Canada in general. So, it’s been cool to be here and experience the culture and be in Toronto and experience the city.’

Before tip-off, the Indiana Fever star was seen receiving a bouquet of flowers from one young fan, before taking the time to sign autographs for gathered spectators.

The same warm reception did not meet Clark’s teammate Sophie Cunningham, who was booed throughout the game by the Toronto crowd.

Cunningham has become a divisive figure in the WNBA after advocating for restrictions to be put in place regarding transgender athletes, publicly claiming she wants to ‘protect young girls’ from ‘biological men’ in sport.
