Undisputed heavyweight world champion and boxing’s “GWOAT” Claressa Shields and unified WBC and WBA champion Kaye Scott sounded off at the final press conference on Thursday at Center Stage Theater for their highly anticipated showdown this Saturday, live exclusively on DAZN from State Farm Arena.
The City of Atlanta and Fulton County proclaimed August 15 “Claressa Shields Day” in celebration of the historic event, which will showcase the first women’s headlining bout in the history of State Farm Arena, the home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
The official proclamation recognized Claressa’s athletic accomplishments, advocacy for women and contributions to the city’s legacy of athletic excellence, cultural influence and Black achievement. Presenting the proclamations were Wayne Martin, Atlanta City Council, and Dana Barrett, Fulton County Commissioner.
The city also acknowledged Route 30, Salita Promotions and Wynn Records for their contributions in bringing the historic event to Atlanta.
Shields also launched “In Her Corner,” an initiative recognizing influential Atlanta leaders whose work embodies resilience, excellence, and service. Miriam I. Archibong, Esq., of The Archibong Firm, who served as counsel to Route 30 Promotions in negotiating and helping bring the championship fight to Atlanta, also served as mistress of ceremonies for the inaugural presentation. The first “In Her Corner” honorees were Judge Asha Jackson; Fulton County CEO-Elect Moraima “Mo” Ivory; four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross; and Melissa McGhie Proctor, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena.
Here’s what Shields and Scott had to say at Thursday’s final press conference:
CLARESSA SHIELDS:
“I’m in peak form right now—I feel like I could push a truck. It’s not even about whether she’s weak or strong; it’s that I’m feeling stronger than ever. I know Kaye’s tough and she believes in herself, which is exactly what she needs to bring to a fight like this.”
“I really cannot wait to see what happens when I land this right hand. I respect her confidence, but once we step inside that ring and those heavy shots start landing, the whole dynamic changes and it’s a completely different story.”
KAYE SCOTT:
“The world has been underestimating me because they’ve only been looking at my record of five professional fights. I’m going to prove on Saturday night I deserve to share the ring with the GWOAT. I earned that.”
“This is the biggest stage I’ve been on but the amateurs gave me a crash course in traveling, talking to media and shaking the nerves. I know I’m in for a tough battle, but I’ve never been one to give up or quit. This is what I’ve trained for and I’m ready”.
Presented by Salita Promotions in partnership with Wynn Records, Claressa Shields Promotions and Route 30 Promotions, presenting sponsor Zeus Network and sponsor OnlyFans, the historic event marks the first women’s headliner at State Farm Arena. Remaining tickets for Aug. 15 are available on Ticketmaster.com.
