The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Ashanti Regional Office, has commended the Electricity Company of Ghana’s  Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region for its prompt response and restoration of power.

This follows a major electrical fault that affected several communities in Kumasi and surrounding areas.

‎Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC, Edward Boduah Kingston, in a letter addressed to Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese, General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, praised ECG’s management and staff for dedication, professionalism, and commitment to work, which ensured reliable power supply.

“The PURC Ashanti Regional Office wishes to recognize and express our sincere appreciation to you and your entire team at the ECG Sub-Transmission Region for your dedicated service and prompt restoration of power in the Ashanti Region,” a portion of the letter read.

“Your efforts demonstrate that ECG is committed to serving the people in every situation, and it gives consumers confidence that their concerns are being heard and addressed,” the letter added.

‎The commendation highlighted the incident at Esereso High Tension, where a broken connection on the KAASE2 overhead interconnector caused electrical arcing and interrupted supply at about 5:46 p.m. on August 6, 2026. Despite the fault occurring beyond normal working hours, ECG’s Line Maintenance team mobilized immediately, working under torchlight to repair the damage and restore service.

‎“The determination of the team to work under challenging conditions and restore supply as quickly as possible reflects ECG’s commitment to serving consumers under all circumstances,” the letter stated.

‎Ing. Ohenese, in his response, commended the team for their sense of duty, stressing that the restoration effort demonstrated the dedication of ECG engineers and technicians to maintaining network reliability and protecting consumer interests.

‎This recognition underscores the critical role of ECG’s technical teams in ensuring reliability and responding swiftly to faults, reinforcing public confidence in the company’s service delivery.
