The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has cut sod for the construction of a 250-bed boys’ dormitory block with a courtyard at Achimota School after securing GH¢18.7 million in private funding through its Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI).

The project is being fully financed by Saka Homes, owned by Achimota School old student Ebenezer Kwadwo Saka Addo-Mensah, making the company the first to fully sponsor a project under the GETFund initiative.

GETFund Administrator, Paul Adjei, performed the sod-cutting ceremony and formally received the donation on behalf of the Fund at an event held at the school on Thursday, August 6.

Mr Adjei described the project as a demonstration of a shared commitment to improving educational infrastructure and preserving excellence in learning. He also commended Mr Saka Addo-Mensah for giving back to his alma mater, saying the gesture highlights the important role alumni can play in supporting education in Ghana.

He added that quality education depends not only on effective teaching but also on the provision of safe, modern and conducive learning facilities for students.
