A young man has died in hospital after being left with significant head injuries following a brawl between rival gangs at a wild party in Brisbane‘s south.

Jongkuch Peter Kur Jongkuch Achieu, from Redbank Plains, had his life support switched off on Saturday, five days after he was savagely attacked outside an Airbnb on Discovery Boulevard in Logan. The Sudanese man was 21 years old.

Police were called to Bahrs Scrub in the early hours of July 27 following reports of a ‘large disturbance involving a group of people’ on Discovery Boulevard.

On arrival, police found significant damage to a number of vehicles parked on the street, as well as damage to a residence.

As members of the group fled the scene, officers discovered Mr Jongkuch on a nearby street with significant head injuries.

He was given CPR at the scene before being rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition. However, he could not be saved.

His passing was confirmed by community group Biong Community Global, which aims to connect people within the South Sudanese diaspora.

‘This is a life cut far too short, and a loss felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him,’ Elijah Buol from the Biong Community wrote. ‘May his soul rest in eternal peace.’

Mr Buol also credited Queensland Police for their work and thanked the medical team who ‘worked tirelessly’ to care for Mr Jongkuch.

‘Our police officers are often the first to confront trauma in our Australian society, and on behalf of the family, extended family and friends, I express our sincere appreciation for their service and continued efforts in this matter,’ he said.

Members of the South Sudanese diaspora paid tribute to their ‘brother’ and called for more action to prevent tragedies like this involving gangs.

‘It’s just not fair that we continue to lose so many young people this way. May God protect and comfort his family during this incredibly difficult time,’ one person commented.

Another said: ‘What a tragic loss this is! I think we can be better than this, to be honest.’

It comes as frightened neighbours reported fearing for their lives as the brawl unfolded.

‘Very rowdy. It was pure chaos, they were running all over the place (and) smashing things,’ a woman told 7News.

Another neighbour said: ‘We didn’t want to look and be targeted ourselves, so we bunkered down until police came.’

On Tuesday, Queensland Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with Mr Jongkuch’s assault.

‘There have been no arrest/charges in relation to this investigation,’ a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

‘There are no further details available at this time.’

Last week, Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said other party-goers had been taken to hospital with laceration-type injuries.

‘This was a targeted attack. To describe (the events) as an all-out brawl would be fair,’ he said.

Anyone with any information that could assist, which includes relevant CCTV, home security or dashcam vision of the area around the time of the incident, is urged to contact police or upload your footage through this link.
