Three people have died in a house fire in Sydney‘s south-west.
Emergency services were called to a Cornelia Street home in Wiley Park at about 9.45pm on Wednesday following reports of a fire.
Twenty firefighters were confronted by a ferocious blaze upon arrival.
‘They forced their way through the burning exterior of the property, extinguishing scaffolding and garden trellis that had caught alight,’ a Fire and Rescue NSW statement read.
The bodies of three people were located in a granny flat at the back of the badly damaged home.
They are yet to be formally identified.
A crime scene was established as an investigation was launched into the cause.
‘Our investigators will examine the scene thoroughly, once it’s been declared safe,’ FRNSW Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell said.
‘We offer our condolences to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy.
‘This is a stark reminder of the dangers of home fires, particularly during the winter period.’
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
