Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a major setback following confirmation that key players Mohammed Kudus and Mohammed Salisu will miss the tournament due to serious injuries.
Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz announced a 28-man provisional squad on Monday as Ghana opened its pre-World Cup training camp in Cardiff ahead of an international friendly against Wales on June 2. However, the absence of Kudus and Salisu dominated discussions surrounding the squad announcement.
Kudus, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, has been ruled out after suffering a quadriceps injury followed by a rehabilitation setback that prematurely ended his season. Reports indicate the midfielder could require surgery, bringing an end to hopes of a timely recovery before the tournament.
Meanwhile, Salisu sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for AS Monaco against Olympique Lyon in January. Ghana team doctor Dr Prince Pambo previously confirmed the defender would require approximately nine months to recover.
The double injury blow leaves Ghana without two of its most influential players heading into the global tournament.
