German-born Ghanaian defender Derrick Kohn has reflected on a challenging but rewarding season with Union Berlin after the club finished 11th in the Bundesliga.

The versatile left-back played an important role for the Iron Ones throughout the campaign, making 29 appearances and scoring once despite the club enduring a difficult second half of the season.

Union’s struggles eventually led to the departure of head coach Steffen Baumgart, with Marie-Louise Eta taking charge to become the first female coach in Bundesliga history.

Following the end of the season, Kohn took to social media to reflect on the journey and appreciate the support around the club.

“End of the season. Not every moment was easy, but every moment helped us to grow. Proud of the journey, proud of the people around us and thankful for all the support this season. More to come,” the Ghanaian defender posted.

The 27-year-old impressed with his energetic performances on the left flank throughout the season, combining strong defensive qualities with attacking contributions and dangerous deliveries into the box.

Kohn will now hope his performances at club level and his impressive display for the Black Stars against Germany in March — where he provided an assist — will be enough to secure a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
