Kofi Adams has defended the Ministry of Sports and Recreation’s involvement in the affairs of the Ghana Swimming Association following concerns raised by stakeholders over governance and electoral processes within the federation.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the Sports Minister explained that the Ministry stepped in after complaints emerged regarding transparency, governance issues, and the conduct of elections within the association.

According to Hon. Adams, the intervention was aimed at restoring stability and confidence in the administration of the sport while safeguarding the interests of athletes and stakeholders.

“Through dialogue and engagement with all parties including the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Electoral Commission, and athlete representatives, a framework was established to oversee fair elections and promote stability within the sport,” he stated.

The Minister also addressed concerns surrounding recognition issues raised by World Aquatics, stressing that the Ministry’s focus remains on transparency, collaboration, and the long-term development of swimming in Ghana.

Hon. Adams emphasized that government’s role is not to interfere with the autonomy of sports federations but to ensure a conducive environment where athletes are protected and sporting disciplines can thrive.

“The Ministry remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure a credible resolution that restores confidence and upholds the integrity of the sport,” he added.
