Attram De Visser Academy were crowned champions of the maiden Democracy Youth Cup after defeating JP FC 3-1 in an entertaining final at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park on Thursday.

The academy delivered an impressive performance to secure the trophy and the GHS10,000 cash prize in the newly introduced youth competition under the Democracy Cup initiative.

The Democracy Cup, which had previously been played as a one-off match over the last two years, has now been expanded to include a youth tournament as part of efforts to promote grassroots football and talent development in Ghana.

Clerk to Parliament Bernard Ahiafor has already confirmed that the competition is now a permanent fixture.

The final attracted football enthusiasts, scouts, coaches and invited guests who gathered to witness the climax of the competition. The tournament also served as a major scouting platform for young talents.

Former Sunderland AFC player Gary Bennett was present throughout the tournament alongside former Black Stars defender Yaw Acheampong and legendary Ghanaian coach J. E. Sarpong, with all three closely monitoring players during the competition.

The tournament will officially conclude on Friday morning with a special exhibition match involving a 22-man select side chosen by Bennett, Acheampong and Coach Sarpong. The selected team will face runners-up JP FC at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park at 9:00 AM.

Meanwhile, attention will later shift to the main event of the 2026 Democracy Cup, which will feature a blockbuster showdown between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with the official date yet to be announced.
