English-born Ghanaian international Tariq Lamptey has expressed his disappointment after ACF Fiorentina terminated his contract following an injury-hit spell in Italy.

The English-born Ghana international joined the Violets last summer in a reported €6 million move from Brighton & Hove Albion and signed a three-year contract with the Serie A side.

However, Lamptey’s time in Florence was heavily disrupted by injuries. The 25-year-old made only two appearances for Fiorentina, including his first and only start against Como 1907 on September 21, 2025.

That night turned disastrous for the defender after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee just 22 minutes into the game, an injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

ACF Fiorentina eventually decided to terminate the remaining two years of his contract due to concerns over his recurring injury problems.

Reacting after the termination, Lamptey admitted he was disappointed he could not fully showcase himself to the club’s supporters.

“I was truly excited to play at Franchi, to wear this shirt, and to help the team on the pitch and give the fans something to cheer for,” he wrote.

The latest setback also means Lamptey is expected to miss Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup as he continues his recovery process and searches for the next step in his career.
